5.4.4 Toward Urban Value Field Economics (UVFE)
The development of the Urban Land Value Field (ULVF) represents more than a new approach to land valuation. It establishes a theoretical foundation for understanding urban value as a continuous spatio-temporal field shaped by the interactions of physical infrastructure, economic activities, land use, institutions, environmental conditions, and human behavior.
Building upon this foundation, the concepts of Urban Value Flow, Value Governance, and Policy Simulation extend the scope of analysis beyond the description of urban value toward the understanding of its creation, movement, redistribution, and management within complex urban systems.
This progression naturally leads to Urban Value Field Economics (UVFE)—an emerging interdisciplinary framework that integrates urban economics, spatial science, GIS, artificial intelligence, systems theory, and public policy into a unified theory of urban value.
Unlike conventional urban economics, which often focuses on market equilibrium or land price mechanisms, UVFE views cities as dynamic value systems in which value is continuously generated, transferred, accumulated, and transformed through spatial interactions and temporal evolution. Within this framework, urban value becomes the central analytical object, while the Urban Land Value Field provides its mathematical and spatial representation.
UVFE therefore extends the analytical capabilities of ULVF from spatial modeling to economic interpretation, governance, and strategic decision-making. It offers a scientific basis for understanding not only where urban value exists, but also how it is created, how it moves, how it changes over time, and how it can be managed to support sustainable urban development.
As digital cities continue to evolve through GIS, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Twins, and data-driven governance, UVFE provides a conceptual framework capable of connecting scientific theory with practical urban management. It represents the next stage in the evolution of urban value research, linking mathematical modeling with economic analysis and intelligent governance.
The chapters that follow present the methodological framework of ULVF, demonstrating how this theoretical foundation can be translated into operational models for urban value analysis, land valuation, spatial prediction, and policy evaluation. These methodological developments also establish the basis for the future evolution of Urban Value Field Economics.
